Do you offer online counselling sessions?
Yes! I provide online counselling for individuals and expat couples via secure video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person therapy and offer the convenience of connecting from your own home, anywhere in Australia or internationally.
What platform do you use for online sessions?
I use Google Meet, a secure, encrypted video conferencing platform that protects your privacy and confidentiality. You’ll receive a private link before each session—simply click it at your appointment time to join.
What do I need for an online session?
You’ll need:
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone
- A private, quiet space where you can talk openly
- Headphones (recommended for better audio quality and privacy)
Is online counselling as effective as in-person therapy?
Research shows that online counselling is equally effective as face-to-face therapy for most relationship issues. Many clients actually prefer it because they feel more comfortable in their own environment, and it eliminates travel time.
Can we do couples counselling if my partner and I are in different locations?
Absolutely! Many couples I work with are in different cities or even countries. You can each join from your separate locations, or together from the same room—whatever works best for you.
Getting Started
How do I book my first session?
Simply visit the Contact Page and contact me directly via email. I respond to all inquiries within 24-48 hours.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes! I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone or video consultation so we can discuss your needs, answer your questions, and see if we’re a good fit to work together.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is about understanding your story. We’ll discuss what brings you to counselling, your relationship history, and your goals. I’ll explain my “You, Me, and Us” model and how we’ll work together. This is also your chance to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable.
How long are the sessions?
Standard sessions are 50-60 minutes for individuals. I also offer extended 90-minute sessions for couples who need more intensive work.
Scheduling & Availability
What are your hours?
I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate different time zones, including evening and weekend appointments. I operate on Australian Eastern Standard Time, but I will do my best to adapt to your time zone.
I live overseas—can you work with my time zone?
Yes! I work with international clients regularly and can often arrange appointments outside standard business hours to accommodate significant time differences.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens! I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) may incur a fee unless due to emergency or illness.
How often should we meet?
Most couples benefit from weekly or fortnightly sessions initially. As you make progress, we can space sessions further apart. The frequency depends on your specific needs and goals.
Costs & Payment
How much do sessions cost?
- Individual counselling: $200 USD per session
- Couples counselling: $300 USD per session
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept bank transfer. Payment is due at the time of booking or before each session.
Do you accept insurance or Medicare?
In Australia:
- If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates. I can provide receipts for you to claim.
International:
- International clients should check with their insurance provider about coverage for telehealth counseling.
Do you offer payment plans or sliding scale fees?
I understand that counselling is an investment. In certain circumstances, I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. Please contact me to discuss your situation confidentially.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Is online counselling confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything you share in our sessions is completely confidential, subject to the same legal and ethical requirements as in-person therapy. I use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy.
Are sessions recorded?
Yes, I use Heidi Health for each of my counselling sessions. Heidi is compliant with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act. This information management system is ISO27001 accredited for data security.
What are the limits to confidentiality?
As with all counselling, confidentiality is broken only in rare circumstances:
- If there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others
- If there’s suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable person
- If required by law or court order
I will always discuss these limitations with you at the start of our work together.
My Approach & Specialties
What is your counselling approach?
I use the “You, Me, and Us” relationship model, which focuses on three essential areas: individual growth (You and Me) and relationship development (Us). This holistic approach helps couples identify where to focus their energy for lasting change.
What issues do you specialize in?
I work with couples and individuals on:
- Communication difficulties
- Infidelity and rebuilding trust
- Relationship transitions and major life changes
- Pre-marital counselling
- Separation and divorce support
- Healing from past relationships
- Rekindling intimacy and connection
- Parenting challenges
- Work-life balance in relationships
Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples?
Yes! I welcome clients of all sexual orientations and gender identities. All couples deserve support in building healthy, fulfilling relationships.
What if only one partner wants to attend counselling?
While couples counselling works best when both partners attend, individual counselling can still be very beneficial. We can work on your personal growth, communication skills, and relationship patterns. Often, positive changes in one partner inspire growth in the relationship overall.
About My Qualifications
What are your qualifications and experience?
I have over 40 years of experience in counseling and relationship therapy. I hold an Master of Arts in Psychology and am registered with AHPRA, the Australian regulating agency. I’ve helped hundreds of couples navigate challenges and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.
Are you registered with any professional bodies?
Yes, I am a member with the Australian Psychological Society, which means I adhere to strict ethical guidelines and maintain ongoing professional development. You can confirm this on their ‘Find a Psychologist’ page. I have professional indemnity insurance in Australia with AON.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
What if I have technical difficulties during a session?
Technical issues happen occasionally. If we get disconnected:
- Try rejoining the video call using the same link
- If that doesn’t work, I’ll call you on your phone
- We can continue by phone or reschedule the remainder of the session at no charge
I’m not tech-savvy—will I be able to do online counselling?
Absolutely! The technology is very simple—if you can make a video call or use FaceTime, you can do online counselling. I’ll walk you through everything step-by-step, and we can do a test call before your first session if you’d like.
Can I do sessions on my phone?
Yes, you can use a smartphone, though a larger screen (tablet or computer) often provides a better experience. Make sure you’re in a private location with good signal or WiFi.
Additional Questions
Can I bring my children to sessions?
Couples counselling works best without children present, as it’s important to speak freely. Please arrange childcare for your sessions if possible. However, if childcare is an issue, please discuss this with me.
What if we’re considering separation?
Counselling can be valuable whether you’re trying to strengthen your relationship or navigating separation with respect and care. I create a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your options and make the best decision for you both.
How long does couples counselling take?
Every couple is different. Some see improvement in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. On average, couples work with me for 8-12 sessions, but we’ll regularly review your progress and goals together.
Do you offer resources outside of sessions?
Yes! I’ve written an e-book, “Dealing with Marital Challenges: A Model for Healthy Relationships During Difficult Times” (available on Amazon), and I offer a Couples Workbook with practical exercises. I also share articles and resources on this website.
